Adaptive Reuse of Soldier Field

Chicago, Illinois

Rising like a Phoenix from the ashes, the regeneration of Soldier Field between 2002 and 2004 provided a stunning example of a stadium combining traditional architecture, the colonnades, with the latest in high-tech design.

Hirschfeld is proud to have been a part of this showcase development having provided the precision fabricated steelwork that made it all possible. Working within a tight time frame and aware of the site lay down restraints, Hirschfeld had to engineer this project on a “just in time basis”. This extraordinary structure of long spans and cantilevers required a systematic approach - from the complex 3D modeling, the procurement, machining and delivery to the site of each piece of steel, it was essential that the contract schedule was maintained.

In order to ensure this objective was achieved, Hirschfeld, using the latest computer software, methodically tracked every member each step of the way to ensure that when required it was available for erection, thereby contributing to the reopening of the stadium on schedule.
